Edmonton is widely considered a poor market to live in. Not only the climate (which would work against Winnipeg also) but it's airport is a far distance. In Winnipeg, you're centrally located with a close airport. It's easy to get out of town. We're far closer to the US. I guess Edmonton is close to Calgary and gets some of the Calgary rub but I'd rather live in Winnipeg than Edmonton.

Big improvement for me. The new team is really finding their stride the last few days in my mind, finding the balance between light hearted and analytical. I agree the first week and a bit seemed a little stiff and forced, but Edmonds sounds much more comfortable and loose. It's nice to have that mix of fun and good discussion, as opposed to a little too much juvenile antics and loud arguments between hosts.

To be honest, I gave up on the show about a month or two ago. I get my NHL news from other mediums now.
I found the antics too annoying and they featured non-hockey stories too often; and most of the time, they don't know what they're talking about. I did manage to catch about 10min on my drive to work yesterday -- 3 white guys talking about an issue that was clearly an african-american issue in a league that we don't even have a franchise in. Really? Jets game day and this was their feature? I switched to CJOB -- I'd rather listen to the traffic report -- I'm serious!
An all sports talk radio station in Winnipeg should focus & be experts on the teams/leagues related to Winnipeg!
My personal opinion: these guys shouldn't talk about any leagues they know nothing about (NBA, MLB, NFL). Stick to NHL, the Bombers, Goldeyes, UoM, and amateur sport here in the province and their ratings might improve.
The reason why sports talk radio works in markets like Toronto, Chicago, New York is b/c those stations focus on their teams -- we truly only have 1 major league team in town. Hate to say it...sports talk radio in Winnipeg isn't working in its current format. The numbers prove it.

He is as knowledgable as most scribes that write/talk about it.

Edmunds can speak on MLB...he has spent years covering minor ball and MLB. He is as knowledgable as most scribes that write/talk about it. Not entirely accurate. He covered the Goldeyes for 19 seasons -- thats it. I agree he has the knowledge of that level of baseball; he never did MLB games. TSN1290 acquired the Blue Jays broadcasting rights; so it makes sense for them to pick up a baseball resource, but Paul never actually called an MLB game...he just covered it like any local scribe would. But I respect your opinion and you are in your right to disagree w/ mine. As far as the Morning Show is considered, between Liebel, Westwood, and Edmonds, they can knowledgably cover minor ball (Goldeyes of which will be switching their rights over to 100.7FM -- so you won't hear a lot of coverage on TSN1290), and the CFL. None of the 3 have any NHL ties whatsover! Liebel is as useless as man-teets! The three of them have as much right as I do on commenting on the NHL. This is where I see the gap! I suggest keeping Westwood (CFL/NFL), Edmonds (MLB/minor-ball), and replace Liebel w/ a hockey expert! A former player or coach or even local NHL scribe would suffice. Current morning show lacks that insight right now. TSN1290 has official rights to Winnipeg Jets -- yet they haven't yet secured a hockey expert for their morning show. It boggles my mind. Again...just my opinions; not worth much but I do thing Winnipeg Jet fans are not being well-served via the Morning Show. The other shows are good to great...but the Morning Show is poor in my mind.

Paul Edwards this morning pushing the idea players dont want to play here (in talking about the importance of signing Stuart to a long term deal). I wonder how many players will need to sign long term deals here before we stop talking about how no one wanta to play here. Paul Edwards?!?!?

The NFL is by far and away the biggest and most popular league in North America. If you think listeners don't want to hear news and discussion on it you're sadly mistaken. If it is all major league team talk as you suggest (ie. Jets) by hour three they will be dissecting jersey styles and equipment sizes. I don't want to hear 4 hours of hockey talk, that is what that illegal curve show is for.

I turned on the show for three seconds and heard them talking about an issue that didnt pertain to my specific interest. Yikes. Start your own podcast then. Its an all SPORTS station and the morning show is a SPORTS show. They will not discuss hockey for 24 straight hours.

Save the stuff you like to listen to for outside the designated "NHL Power Hour". I don't consider that to be a "close-minded" opinion; I consider it to be the failure of those individuals to deliver. Sorry that I expect to hear hockey during their hockey segment. Like I said; I've given up on the show. I prefer to get my hockey news elsewhere. Enjoy your weekend!

It's improved, albeit slightly, but I think it has leaps and bounds to go to actually grasp my interest. I only listen to it for maybe 15 minutes at a time, maybe 2-3 times a week, so its not a big investment or a big deal on my part. One thing that did make me laugh this morning (which was not intentional on their part) was after playing the Kesler clip of him vehemently denying that he ever brought up a trade request, and saying it's 100% not true, the media probably made it up, and he's done talking about it, and wants the media to stop bringing it up, they immediately talk of the scenario where he asked for the Canucks to shop him around. ?

I liked them bringing up the possibility of Vanek trade to Winnipeg. Yeah right.
In the morning I want four things - traffic, weather, sports and anything major news. I used to be a big CJOB listener in the car as opposed to music because I like to hear issues and arguments and news etc. Now its mostly 1290 unless I want to flip to CJOB at the top of the hour for some more in depth news.

I listened to them this morning. It was actually tolerable, so there is some improvement. It probably helped that they were excited about the Philadelphia Eagles about to acquire Darren Sproles, and they were very complimentary and positive on the Eagles upcoming season!!

The show is evolving exactly as I had hoped. Edmonds sounding more comfortable all the time, the guys are finding the right mix. I'm really enjoying it, but to each their own.
