Any thoughts on this loser calling out Ladd for being there for the birth of his child? I assume that this Westwood fellow has no family of his own? Isn't he the guy that tanked a few field goals to cost the Blue Bombers a Grey Cup?
pffft...what a chump...my opinion is that he has not earned the right to call out a real athlete for anything....

But he's one of the hosts for 1290's BIG SHOW!! He's a former professional athlete! He knows what he's talking about!!

I though it was a bit ridiculous too. Calling out a persons character like that. Family should always come first. Anyone to criticize that should re-think their life choices. It's not like they were in the playoff hunt. They had a 2% chance of making the playoffs coming into that game anyway.

He's the all time career point leader for the Bombers by a wide margin. Also played with the Winnipeg Fury pro soccer team. So I assume your definition of a "real" athlete is making millions to play a sport?
Regardless I completely disagree with the assesment that because he wasn't a "real" athelte he doesn't have the right to call out an NHL player for something. That's the most imature defence of something. "You can't comment cause you never played/coached/performed/etc."
Your entire argument is completely ad hominem. This guy is a loser/not a real athelete/chump/has no fmaily so his opinion doesn't matter. Why not try coming up with an intelligent counter argument to his opinion?
Edit: For the record I didn't hear what was said but assume the gyst of it, but always prefer to hear the actual quote before forming an opinion.

The guy is a semi professional below average kicker who ran his mouth all the time and never backed it up on the field. Of course this idiot who is now masquerading as a former "professional athlete" and radio personality would take an asinine approach to child birth and the involvement of the father. Just because the clown leaves the rodeo doesn't mean he stops being a clown.

if your gonna slam Westwood, then at least have your facts all lined up. Westwood said that he should be there for the birth, but also said that if babay and mother are fine, then perhaps he should be with his team. its a personal choice, but he IS the captain and we WERE fighting for a playoff spot. thats all he said. some of you guys here are beyond ridiculous.

also, it sure reeks of jealousy from some of you that Westwood had a long career in PRO SPORTS and you guys were no more than has-beens and never-weres. you hate your life that much?? pathetic.

Westwood NEVER called him out for being there. but did say if mom and baby are fine, then he should be with his team. he also said it was a personal choice, but pro sports is different than your average job.

He's an uneducated idiot. Being a kicker for the Bombers, in yesterdays CFL of 20 years ago, is as about as pro athlete as beer league teams at the Highlander calling themselves pro athletes.
If he'd had missed the 2001 Grey Cup for family reasons, than the Bombers would have won. He's not a Bomber great. He's a bum. Doug Berry finally had enough of his nonsense, long hair, tap dancing, trying to be a country music singer, selling cars at Crown Acura, thinking he was an amateur boxer, and had the good sense to send him out on his ass... As soon as kickers started to be seen as actual skilled athletes, Westwood's days were done. When he was let go from the Bombers, how many teams lined up for his talented services? ZERO.
I hope True North bans him from any privileges/press box for TSN 1290 personalities. His comments were pretty personal, and about one of their own AND his family. It's really no debate on who's right and who's wrong when you have a fired punter Troy Westwood saying what he thinks, and the entire professional hockey world, players, journalists, on air personalities, all completely disagreeing with him... I've yet to see one single comment from someone in the business agree with his BS statements.
He's a fu*ken idiot.

What the hell do you call these statements he made on twitter, then?? "Cory, the baby was born last night. Get on a plane this morning, take a 3 hour flight, the team needs you." "With respect, you guys don't get pro sport. Baby is born and safe right? Get to the team." "Baby born last night. 2nd baby. Everyone is healthy. Are your freakin kidding me? Ridiculous he is not there." "The baby is in this world and healthy. This is pro freakin sports, your team needs you, get to the game."

Not the biggest fan of him but what he was doing was trying to use an assumption and then argue from the assumption. The assumption was to assume the child was already born. As I understand it he then stated how much wiggle room are you prepared to give a guy when the stakes are higher e.g., a playoff game or Stanley Cup Final where his obligations become presumably higher or potentially higher to his team mates. The point of all the screaming and yelling and self-righteous anger was that it was a personal decision and shouldn't be subject to external criticism or argument.
