What's ridiculous, like the poster above says, is that ONE voice raises the issue and all of a sudden, the entire city, media, and fanbase are making it out to be that we're such a vicious place for players to play. What's disappointing is Kirk Penton's Wpg Sun article furthering it. It's a total non issue from all but one member of the media... but that's not what ESPN, Yahoo, etc are telling the hockey world. "Only in Winnipeg"... yeah, right. probably not but we are the only place that allows a buffoon to be on the radio criticizing an athlete about it...

I hope that Westwood's take on it isn't trumpeted as "See how Winnipeggers think? See how they treat their players?". From what I've seen here and at HF the hard core fans are understanding and supportive of Ladd's decision. So far it's one dorf with a microphone who's taking issue with Laddy.
But we're all talking about it, no? So I guess 'mission accomplished', Troy.

Couple of days ago my favourite colour commentator for TSN (not) Mike Johnson called out on Sportsdesk "some" Winnipeg fans for their criticism of Ladd.

Nope, the story is starting to leak out here to Vancity and it's being portrayed as a "look how Jets fans treat there players" type story. The thing that irks me the most is that this just reeks of muck raking. I think with the jets falling out of playoff contention and football a ways away, Westwood was just trying to create a controversy for something to talk about on his show. Well mission accomplished bonehead!

^ You'd be pissed too if someone made comments like that about your friend/co-worker/teammate, prolly should have kept his mouth shut on it but you can understand his frustration.

^ I don't know about that. He's one of the guys who seems to be putting his best effort forward most of the time. If he wanted out of Winnipeg I'm sure by now he would have asked for a trade privately then publicly. And his performance would have started to slip. I think he wants to be in the city it just looks to me like he took this personally.

I don't like Little's comment. One tiny change in Little's quote would have completely ameliorated it's negative connotation and vastly increased it's veracity: Instead of: "We were joking around before that only in Winnipeg someone would say negative comments about the birth of a child. Then I heard someone actually did. I'd like to say I'm surprised but I'm not".Make it: "We were joking around before that only the Winnipeg media would say negative comments about the birth of a child. Then I heard someone actually did. I'd like to say I'm surprised but I'm not".Saying Troy Westwood's comments are representative of Winnipeggers is like saying Rob Ford's antics are representative of Torontonians. Actually it's less accurate: Rob Ford was elected by the people of Hogtown. No one voted for Westwood. m.

Ladd did the right thing but I can tell you some people wouldn't have, but nobody is right or wrong here!

Little made those comments?
