He's the all time career point leader for the Bombers by a wide margin. Also played with the Winnipeg Fury pro soccer team. So I assume your definition of a "real" athlete is making millions to play a sport? Regardless I completely disagree with the assesment that because he wasn't a "real" athelte he doesn't have the right to call out an NHL player for something. That's the most imature defence of something. "You can't comment cause you never played/coached/performed/etc." Your entire argument is completely ad hominem. This guy is a loser/not a real athelete/chump/has no fmaily so his opinion doesn't matter. Why not try coming up with an intelligent counter argument to his opinion? Edit: For the record I didn't hear what was said but assume the gyst of it, but always prefer to hear the actual quote before forming an opinion. He has no frame of reference with which to make these comments and that is required in order to make a case that makes rational sense. He is neither a father nor was he a high level professional athlete so while anyone is entitled to an opinion, even you, opining on this topic carries no weight with me. You seem offended by my opinion of him and so you lash out by calling my opinion immature and not intelligent. In reality, that is the truest form of immaturity but you are entitled to your opinion as well, no matter how emotionally driven it is.

Westwood NEVER called him out for being there. but did say if mom and baby are fine, then he should be with his team. he also said it was a personal choice, but pro sports is different than your average job. What the hell do you call these statements he made on twitter, then?? "Cory, the baby was born last night. Get on a plane this morning, take a 3 hour flight, the team needs you." "With respect, you guys don't get pro sport. Baby is born and safe right? Get to the team." "Baby born last night. 2nd baby. Everyone is healthy. Are your freakin kidding me? Ridiculous he is not there." "The baby is in this world and healthy. This is pro freakin sports, your team needs you, get to the game." those ARE the facts...he said them and that cannot be denied...this Westwood fellow has every right to express and opinion just as anyone on here does, but his opinion in these matters is laughable as far as I am concerned...

Not sure what part of my statement implied I was offended by your opinion of Troy Westwood? I don't listen to the big show, haven't heard anything Troy Westwood has said since his days with the Bombers. So I personally couldn't care if you love him or hate him and have no idea if he's married or has children or not. If anything I was offended by your complete lack of reasoning skills and logic in your argument. Like I said it was compeltely ad hominem. You didn't make a single argument about why his opinion was incorrect. You still haven't, saying he isn't qualified to make an opinion isn't an intelligent argument against his point of view. Again you are attacking the man not the essence of his argument. A proper argument would be against what the point he was making, regardless of who it would be coming from. If the same argument came from a professional hockey player it would suddenly be valid? That's ludicrous. The crux of the opinion is either wrong or not, regardless of who its coming from. Saying its wrong cause its coming from a CFL player not an NHL player is ridiculous. Once again I'm not arguing for or against what Troy Westwood said, simply saying the arguments you make agaisnt his point are weak. Using your logic you have no place saying Westwood is wrong cause you would have no idea if he's wrong or not cause you were never an NHL player.

Who cares football has a different mentality than hockey. The NHL is at a point where owners will give players time off for person issues (deaths, children being born etc.) football isnt like that. Football there is one game a week and a very short season so you are expected to be out there playing regardless of any circumstances.

Some people are raised with a family first mentality, some aren't.
I for one don't care who makes the comments or what their role is in society. I love my family, they are #1. I'd choose to be with them.
If Westwood doesn't have anyone he cares that dearly for in his life, I feel sorry for him.
From the S4 of Grumpz! Phase 1 complete! Now keep Buff off the bluline or trade him & find a #1 goalie.

Lets be clear, Westwood said that everyone should be there for the birth of there child as Ladd was. He is questioning Ladd as to why he could not join the team the following day and I personally don't see anything wrong with that but I don't have kids either so I really not the one to talk. I know if I am a captain of a team, had a baby on Saturday and it was game 7 on the Stanley Cup finals Sunday, Mom and baby are healthy, I'm making that game. I'm willing to bet a VERY high percentage of pro athletes would tell you there making that game as well. Westwood is just questioning if this is any different.
And yes Westwood has kids and he played professional football!

Know what you are talking about before you spout off. He HAS a child actually, so thus your arguments or rants are rendered moot since you fail to even know what is truth and what is figments of your own imagination. This isn't "Jets Talk" either there Mods...

We know for a fact the birth was complication free? Their first childbirth was not.
When did the team arrive in Dallas on their charter jet? Flying to Dallas from Winnipeg on a Monday morning isn't just a quick 3 hour jump.
This is the first game Ladd has missed as a Jet. The coach, teammates, and the organization all wished him well, and did not seem to have issue with his absence.
Troy Westwood calling him out via Twitter is IMO immature, classless, and makes it very personal. If Troy wanted to discuss this topic leave it for the sports radio show that he co-hosts.

He's an uneducated idiot. Being a kicker for the Bombers, in yesterdays CFL of 20 years ago, is as about as pro athlete as beer league teams at the Highlander calling themselves pro athletes. If he'd had missed the 2001 Grey Cup for family reasons, than the Bombers would have won. He's not a Bomber great. He's a bum. Doug Berry finally had enough of his nonsense, long hair, tap dancing, trying to be a country music singer, selling cars at Crown Acura, thinking he was an amateur boxer, and had the good sense to send him out on his ass... As soon as kickers started to be seen as actual skilled athletes, Westwood's days were done. When he was let go from the Bombers, how many teams lined up for his talented services? ZERO. I hope True North bans him from any privileges/press box for TSN 1290 personalities. His comments were pretty personal, and about one of their own AND his family. It's really no debate on who's right and who's wrong when you have a fired punter Troy Westwood saying what he thinks, and the entire professional hockey world, players, journalists, on air personalities, all completely disagreeing with him... I've yet to see one single comment from someone in the business agree with his BS statements. He's a fu*ken idiot. Although I completely disagree with Westwood's take on this subject I think it's pretty safe to say that people have blown it out of proportion a tad, and certainly some of these thread posts are a bit much.

Well I would argue that we were NOT in a playoff race. That dream was as good as dead already, and frankly I was glad he wasn't playing just so it gave us a chance to put a callup on the ice.
