In the USA, as in Canada, people have rights enshrined in the constitution. The right to peacefully protest is one of those rights. One can disagree with the root of the protest, but the right of the protester(s) to carry out their peaceful protest is sacred. No NFL player is harming anyone by taking a knee, linking arms, or remaining in the locker room.
The President of the United States does not understand this. He should welcome protest and welcome dialogue. Using the term SOB to describe Americans exercising their constitutional right of free speech us so far beneath every American. He is disgusting. I saw an interview with a Trump supporter a month ago. The individual commented that he wished Trump was a Democrat, because he believes that he creates so much harm toward the actual policies and causes that this person supports. Trump has used race as his wedge issue. All politicians find wedge issues, but none are more vile than the most divisive issue in the history of the US.

Trump has used race as his wedge issue. All politicians find wedge issues, but none are more vile than the most divisive issue in the history of the US. Where did the President make it a matter of race? You made it a matter of race. Oh the poor dear millionaire players. The President has been called all manner of names since he was elected. He never was a racist blah blah before but when he ran as a Republican (as he had been a Democrat years previously and contributed to Democratic campaigns) then he became a racist. Calling somebody an SOB is a generic term. It applies to any colour SOB, white, black, brown, yellow, pink. The fact you think it is necessary to defend these overpaid self-indulgent athletes is more a testament as to how people have been hoodwinked into supporting these pampered players. As far as exercising their constitutional rights the fact of the matter HE is also exercising his constitutional right to speak freely about the SOBs. The players are the DIVISIVE ones as they spit in the eye of hardworking Americans, black, brown, white who pay for their salaries, honor the flag and country and die for it. Moreover, the players constitutional rights stops at a private business. If Roger Goodell/owners stated that all players had to stand at attention while the anthem was playing and they didn't, they could be disciplined as any private business has a right to do so that their employees not jeopardize their business and integrity by compromising it with conduct detrimental to the league. Funny thing is that the players get all kinds of warnings and discipline about on field conduct and off-field but the NFL and owners just don't want to exercise the balls to capture this conduct. If they did and the player grieved then we would see in the grievance process of that business and NFL if it could be sustained. So don't assume that their 'constitutional rights' (whatever the heck that is) abrogates a private businesses right to ensure its employees behave appropriately.

For those who think that Trump's comments and attitudes have nothing to do with his racism, try to find where he has explicitly condemned that Nazi rally that began much of this. Look up his comments in Poland a few weeks ago. Tell us why the American white supremacist organizations support Trump. There are 3 million Americans in Puerto Rico without electricity or running water and millions of others trying to recover and Trump picks a fight with athletes? One of Trump's advisors is a member of a Hungarian Nazi organization and Trump is still publicly associating with Breitbart News and you can say Trump is not racist?

Can you really not see the corruption of the radical left that has taken over the Democratic Party. Obama and the left worked for 8 years to divide the people, they were successful! Then they target the divided groups for liberal votes.Trump has condemned the alt right many times, but that doesn't matter to the kool aid drinkers because they're not interested in dialogue but only to destroy all opposition.

This tread has completely gone off the rails as far as relating to the Jets, mods please move this to the appropriate location. Up until yesterday, I respected Blake Wheeler for being smart and staying out of politics. He chose to pick sides as did a lot of Canadian players and Tv analysts. To anyone who understands the background here, there is the other side of the story to tell. if you watched TSN Hockey last night they were all over it in their typical liberal media bias. The days of conservatives not speaking up are over. I'm a pretty conservative guy and my respect for Wheeler went up by miles. This has nothing to do with conservative and liberal ideology. Its got everything to do with racism. Its got everything to do with a group of people that unless you are American and black the rest of us can never quite understand the way they feel..Its got everything to to with a man who doesn't understand that certain positions in life require decorum, diplomacy and understanding and unfortunately he is that countrys leader.I have an absolute dislike for our current primeminister as I did his father but that pales in comparison to the embaresment that leads our neighbor.

Wow. Trump has surrounded himself with racists and refuses to condemn racists. That makes him a racist as much as calling his daughter " a piece of ass" makes him a thug and misogynist. You've swallowed the liberal hysteria. He has not surrounded himself with racists. The allegations of the liberal media are lies. He has condemned all sides to the violence including the white supremacists, and ANTIFA. The latter are like the nazis because they are hardcore communists who want the overthrow of the existing order by force. They and the national socialist (nazis: National Socialist German Workers' Party ) are two sides of the same coin. Both are socialists. These historically were the ones fighting in the streets in Germany in the 30's. Both are left-wing - one is nationalist-socialist the other is for global communism. Both feed on hysteria, hate, race wars, economic division etc. Hitler stated capitalism was the enemy of the German people. The lie that you have been fed and which is ahistorical is to believe their propaganda - they claimed that the national socialists were 'right-wing' - that's because they were right of their own hard-core socialism/communism. But both were and are socialists. The National Socialist Party of the USA are an umbrella group for all nazi groups. This has absolutely nothing with the capitalism and nationalist agenda of Trump. Antifa are fake anti-fascists. They are fascists themselves who want a revolutionary dictatorial workers group. Donald Trump was a registered Democrat at one time as well: It's true: Donald Trump was a Democrat. Long before the ultrawealthy real-estate magnate became President of the United States after running on the Republican Party ticket, he belonged to the party of Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter and Lyndon Johnson. And that led to some conservatives suspecting Trump of acting on behalf of the Democrats, and in particular, the Clintons, to sabotage the GOP. www.thoughtco.com/was-donald-trump-a-democrat-3367571Trump fought against racism fundamentally. Learn instead of making false assumptions and claims: P ALM BEACH, Fla. — The patriarchs of this quiet island of millionaires threw up roadblocks when Donald Trump swooped in and turned its historic oceanfront Mar-a-Lago mansion into a private club.
The town council, seeing Trump as an ostentatious outsider, handed him a list of restrictions as he sought to transform the property in the 1990s. Membership, traffic, party attendance, even photography — all would be strictly limited.
But Trump undercut his adversaries with a searing attack, claiming that local officials seemed to accept the established private clubs in town that had excluded Jews and blacks while imposing tough rules on his inclusive one.
Trump’s lawyer sent every member of the town council copies of two classic movies about discrimination: “A Gentleman’s Agreement,” about a journalist who pretends to be Jewish to expose anti-Semitism, and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” about a white couple’s reaction to their daughter bringing home a black fiance.
The move infuriated council members, who said it was a distraction from their concerns that Trump’s club would spoil a quiet street. But, in time, Trump got most of the restrictions lifted.
. In 2016, The Donald J Trump Foundations gave around 60,000 worth of donations to organizations that support climate change, LGBT issues, immigration. If anything the man, a long time New Yorker has classical liberal leanings .

This has obviously gone way off the subject again. Back to Wheeler. I would hope that these guys can stick to the game because when they get political they end up looking stupid and are prone to all the caricatures and formulaic answers the liberal press is looking for. It is prone to the infamous virtue signalling. At least the man was respectful by not calling him a bum like James. He called him Mr. President.

A quick riposte to Donald Trump's generosity: Occupying the White House has proven lucrative for Donald Trump. He’s been able to charge the Secret Service hundreds of thousands for rental space and golf carts. He’s been able to turn his Washington Hotel into a place where the emoluments clause is put to constant test. But the AP reports that no other cash-in matches the one Trump took on day one.
President Donald Trump’s inaugural committee raised an unprecedented $107 million for a ceremony that officials promised would be “workmanlike,” and the committee pledged to give leftover funds to charity.
The $107 million is a massive amount for even the most lavish inauguration. It’s almost twice what Barack Obama took in for a celebration that was much more widely attended and which included many more events. Trump even cut back on the number of inaugural balls to only two, compared to the ten balls that the Obamas attended in 2009. With twice the money and one fourth the events, all but a handful of the $107 million gifted to Trump for the inauguration should be available for charitable giving.
It’s been eight months. How much has been given out? None. None at all.
Nothing has yet gone to charity.
What is left from the massive fundraising is a mystery, clouded by messy and, at times, budget-busting management of a private fund that requires little public disclosure.
Donald Trump wants attention for giving $1 million to those affected by recent hurricanes—donations that so far haven’t actually happened. But he’s still sitting on a massive heap of cash from January which, despite promises, hasn’t gone to help anyone but Trump.
What information has been provided on the fate of this huge pile of cash has been confusing, and simply unbelievable. Of particular interest: The $25 million Trump inaugural concert.
The opening concert featuring Toby Keith and Three Doors Down was broadly similar to concerts put on for Obama in 2009 and Bush in 2005 — except for the cost and size.
Bush’s inaugural committee spent $2.5 million on its concert on the National Mall. Obama’s concert had 10,000 ticketed seats — twice the size of Trump’s — and cost less than $5 million, said Kerrigan, and was produced at a high enough level that HBO paid for the rights to telecast it.
In addition to those ticketed seats, 400,000 people showed up to celebrate Barack Obama’s inauguration with a pre-inaugural concert in the National Mall. In 2017, the area that had been covered with Obama supporters played host to a much smaller group out to cheer on Trump. The total attendance for Trump’s concert has been estimated at just 10,000 people.
But while President Obama provided a lengthy concert with some of the biggest names in music, Trump’s provided a handful of country cover bands, Youtube “celebrities” and military bands who had no choice but to attend.
Trump appeared onstage at the end to do what he normally does: praise the size of the crowd, marvel at how well he and his team had pulled the thing off, and brag about how unprecedented this more or less routine-seeming event had been.
Somehow, Trump supposedly blew through $25 million for this abbreviated event that seemed more suitable for a county fair. In a small county. It’s an amount that seems amazing even to the people on Trump’s own campaign committee.
“I couldn’t tell you how we possibly could have spent $25 million on a concert,” said Kerrigan.
After a campaign in which he repeatedly, and inaccurately, bragged that he was “self-funding,” Trump was rewarded with an astounding pay-off from those who had business before the government. He promised to give the funds to charity and … didn’t. That’s a problem that’s all too familiar.
In January 2016, [Trump] held a high-profile fundraiser for veterans’ causes, but it took him four months — and pressure from the media — to follow through on his pledge to donate $1 million of his own money. During the campaign, Trump’s longtime personal foundation came under fire for its use of other people’s money to fund his charitable pledge.
Now Trump isn’t giving out the money—even if it was never supposed to be his.

It would take years to undo the BS written on this 'Alternate" site. A casual look on the right side of the page and it can be plainly seen that several of the stories are anti-Republican and anti-Trump. BS site.

It's a good thing I don't let the media mold my thoughts. I just look and listen to Trumps exact words. He's a horrible leader. The world sees it, no speculation. I also know, without a media twist, why players are kneeling. I hope Ward takes a knee. Rasicm is disgusting.

They only have that right because they live in the a democratic society, which is fully symbolized by the anthem and the flag. The hypocrisy of their actions is visible to all. This disrespects all who have fallen fighting under the flag to protect those freedoms, the most paramount of which is the First Amendment that you refer to. The President, like most, should welcome a dialogue at any other time than during the anthem, which is inextricably linked to the flag. Use your celebrity to protest by all means. Just don't do it during the anthem, which is the clearest symbol of the fact that you live in a democratic society that earns you the right to have freedom of speech. It's simple logic really.
