Wheeler and Scheif play more of a grinding cycle game. Connor is a smmart kid and has been able to adapt his game to their style. Ehlers can adapt but he's more like Laine, more pass and shoot. It's why Statsny meshed with Ehlers and Laine while a host of others did not. Find a bigger faster version of Stastny.

In a slightly unrelated notwm the calgary flames announced they are making their retro jerseys their new home and away jerseys and in all honesty they look great. Hopefully the sell well enough to convince true north to follow suit.

Wheeler can play 2nd line center until they find someone better. Right now he's the best option. This allows Laine to play with Scheif. Time to make that move unless they get a Lindros deal....

I think that the Jets are thinking about trading Laine, because of Trouba. Trouba had a forced trade and he has the #6 in the league highest contract for a D-man.. Ie NYR considered him elite pretty close to Laine Level.
The Jets broke even on that trade with Heinola and Pionk reasonable if not better value than Trouba.
If the Jets get a offer war going with at their leisure they might be able to greatly improve the team.... with a #2C and a #2D How much better does Laine look on the Jets being one of 5 excellent forwards rather than on a team where they might have 3?

Jets are in a position where they have to take a run at the Cup in the next couple of years or undergo a MAJOR rebuild. On almost every team, only a handful of players are untouchable and there are maybe three or four on the Jets. IMO, Chevy waited a year too long before trading Trouba and even Evander Kane. We do not need another skilled but wimpy European player. This year's draft is said to be quite deep in talent, so there is no reason to draft poorly. What we do not know isthe fate of Bryan Little, and that is a critical piece.

Apparently, the NHL is aiming for a January, 2021 start date for the next season.

So lots of rumours about Stastny potentially returning to Winnipeg. I am of two minds. You would likely be able to get him for next to nothing as he has one year left at a cap hit of 6.5 million and Las Vegas is in a pinch. He doesn't seem to be the player he was when he was here two years ago but he played so well with Ehlers and Laine. Would Las Vegas pay some of his salary or would they give up a pick as a sweetener? Could work out.
But what about making a play for Puljujarvi who now is signed to an inexpensive two-year contract with Edmonton. What would we have to give up to get him? And if you got him at that price you can use the savings of not taking Statsny to bring in a Hamonic or Barrie on the back end.
Interesting days ahead...

Remove Calgary's 1st line center and one of their best wingers and see how Calgarys shortcomings look. Heck take their 2nd line center off for good measure. The only thing that series showed me is we missed some beef on D.
