When is this organization going to learn that all these youthful doe eyed youngsters are eventually going to grow up and the polish of just playing for an NHL team like Winnipeg is a dream come true will wear off?!?!?!
Nobody cares about The mystique of the WHA Jets wouldve beat the Montreal Canadians in a head to head anymore.
Take Mr Hellebuyck for example, Not PLD who was a broken cherry from elsewhere already.
Connor Hellybuyck, in the Winnipeg system from day 1 going back to the days out in St.Johns with the then IceCaps....
He wants out now.......
When is this organization going to learn that we have a 3 to 4 year window with all players to catch lightning in a bottle before these guys want to move on....
I'd rather have all our players up for debate and cycling them in and out regularly if 50 percent of some years we sucked, and the other 50 percent of the time we were in the conference finals or maybe winning a Stanley Cup eventually.
And you know what, if we actually won a Cup, some players then truly might be wanting to come or stay......
But this playing it safe BS with the core and never gambling like Florida did is a complete recipe for eternal mediocity.
Maybe we need Wade Miller running the Jets, guys like Rasheed Bailey took less money to stay here, and yes Im aware that its the CFL, but dont miss the point I'm making....

Valid points. In the NFL I am a Bengals fan. And for decades it was 'loserville' and no player wanted to play there (unless they were well paid and not expected to win). Small market team - but now with younger family members running the team, they have re-branded it, they are winning, and players want to play for a winner (or should we say the RIGHT players want to play there). Some players WANT to win the Cup and some would LIKE TO win the Cup - huge difference in thinking. Some players just want as many years at a high rate of pay as possible and if they win a Cup cool, otherwise whatever. Players that really want to win will do what it takes. Teams like the Jets and the Leafs have too many players in the "Like to" category. You can see they wont ramp up their intensity round by round like the great playoff players do. The fact that this team, as a collective, could not even maintain a playoff style system for 3 months (and all of the last 5 years) despite all of them knowing this was the last chance saloon for this gang is very telling. But we all knew this years ago - only the deaf Chipman and blind Chevy did not, or refused to, see it. |

Number 1: Has he interfered with Chevy on possible past trades that didn’t happen, rumour says it’s so, according to rumours circulating, Chip vetoed a Wheeler trade, again, this is a rumour, however, it would not surprise me if it were true. Number 2: Chipman still has not realized that Chevy has run his course with the Jets, it’s time to move on from Chevy, what does Chipman do, he gives Chevy a 3 year extension. Chevy should have been gone 3 years ago. Number 3: Chipman should have realized by now that Chevy after 12 years is not working. Number 4: Certain Players running the Asylum, Chevy has done nothing about it, now the Jets have their back up against the wall with PLD, Scheif, Helly and Wheeler, a good Owner a long time ago would have realized that his GM has lost control, is afraid to do anything/something, or, does not know what he is doing. This is just my opinion, I could be totally wrong. |

Helle wants to win and win soon. Understandable of course. He doesn't want to stick around for a rebuild as he'll likely be on the downhill side of his career. Again, understandable. However, even he must see that keeping PLD, Wheeler, and Scheif won't get him closer to a cup. Now if the vast majority of the team stays and IF Chevy replaces the 3 subversives with some quality hard nose players and adds a decent defenceman then maybe the team plays like the coaches want. It was a successful run while they did for a while. So if it's a retool and it brings success then maybe Helle sees he's got just as much of a chance to win here. There is absolutely NO guarantee that he gets traded to a team that's a bona fide cup contender. If it all falls apart there's always the trade deadline where someone will overpay to get his services.

I think Hellebuyck wanting out could have a very positive impact. Firstly, Chevy should get incredible value in return, and secondly, he'll have to put more value on acquiring solid, 2-way players that play defense in support of their goalie, rather than hanging him out to dry.
I have no problem with blowing this thing up. Give me a team with an average goaltender and skaters that give a damn. I'll live with it. If it takes a tank year or 2, fine. Tanking for half the year and the playoffs hasn't moved us forward, and a quality goalie just keeps us in the mushy middle.
Chevy has valuable assets to move. Do it well and give us a team that's fun to watch, instead of quite often, painful.
And, Wheeler must not be back. Under any circumstances. Yeah, moving him at the deadline might bring the best return, but he'd have a season to toxify whatever new players come to town.

On an interesting note, PLD and his agent are apparently putting together a list of a few teams that he would be willing to sign with long term. The idea here being to give Chevy some bargaining power. Nice. After the fact of expressing his love for Montreal.
Could it be that the Habs are losing interest? I'm sure they watched the Vegas series PLD no-show. Or just a gesture to get out of town quicker. We will see.

Huston we have have a situation? Pretty boy issues Sucky baby issues like don't want to play hockey in a cold climate? After watching the Vegas series im thinking these NHL players are not as all talented as we all think they are? Senior hockey players many of them from good ole Manitoba basking in the self anoiting of grossley overpaid Sensationalism? Manitoba born players with some skill but in really good physical shape are as good as any player from around the globe? Are they worth millions of dollars? We don't see them shopping at the dollars stores? Sick illusions?

Success Vegas style:
GM that recognizes talent that is good,fast and big that is under appreciated. Built for the playoffs and a lower cap hit. Well, OK Eichel and Stone cost a fortune!
Talent that plays with heart, pride and effort. Got the best Manitoba could offer.
Coaching that gets the most of his players. Interestingly his 3 choices were plug and play.
Luck is involved. Goalies from deep down in the organization playing lights out help. Think Ken Dryden and the Canadiens.

to be fair Vegas had a huge advantage over other teams - they r*ped teams in the entry draft (teams panicked for unknown reasons over losing 1 player) and eneded up with a good set of players plus loads of picks. To their credit they then parlayed that into larger pickups like Stone and Eichel. Well done on thier part but the key was the owner wanted to win a cup in 6 years. Not 'just be in the mix' or not whine that 'it is a tough league to win'. Set a goal and did it. I hate them but I respect how they went about team building.
If we were even have as bold we would trade the 3 'core' players (55, 80, 37) for high end prospects and/or picks, waive bye-bye to 26, trade off another D or two then after all that strategically pick up Free agents (or trade for) high energy undervalued players (playoff type guys as we have enough small talented guys). That would give you a 'good' team until the next set of core players developed. And it would fix the dressing room.
