I would like to amend my previous statement. I said that Chipman might be part of the problem, and now I am certain that he absolutely is. Local media and national media have been unanimous in their criticism of Cheveldayoff's management of the team and yet he still in in the GM's chair. I cannot recall any GM in the NHL who has screwed up so badly and criticized so much and still kept his job. If vultures are not roosting outside his office, they ought to be. What I keep wondering is how much of this is on Chipman himself. There was a rumor ( for what that's worth ) that Chevy had a deal lined up to move Wheeler last off-season but Chipman nixed it because they had to retain part of his salary.

From the standpoint of accountability it all falls on Chipman - he approves and leads the team philosophy, creates the culture and determines the overall direction. And we know he is an active owner (some are not active day to day so to speak) which means he knew about the leadership issues, he knew about the year end comments players made, etc. To me, more and more each day it looks like he is more interested in the True North Corporation and all of its related downtown properties than he is at building a championship team. He clearly wants the team to be 'competitive' but that is it. As long as the team is a playoff team the rest of the empire is solid which is why he wont ever go for a full re-build. He also remains very tone deaf to fans which is a bit of a paradox to his corporate goals but he seems like someone who preaches loyalty but does not reward back.
