Let's continue to show Canada and the NHL what great and classy fans we have here...let's move on ...booing Bettman is not necessary!

When you win, do you Boo? No, you don't.
Winnipeg won: The Jets are back! Knowing that Bettman's hand was forced beyond his control BY Winnipeg should be enough. Win in style. (Out of respect to Chipman, fans should applaud or remain silent, at the very least.) ....very well said !

why boo tho? he had nothing to do with the Jets moving!! it was the fact that nobody here wanted to purchase the team back then...thats a fact! and now, he was a huge part in bringing the team back..so yes, he's a weasel and the NHL would be better off without his new rules and expansion...but seriously people, give him the BIGGEST standing ovation anyone has ever seen...why wouldn't you? would everyone rather be lumped in with the disgraceful Canucks fans that ruined the Stanley Cup trophy presentation because they booed like that? and they have nothing to boo about!!
be loud...be happy..enjoy the night!!!

I say no negative vibes whatsoever. Cheer him loudly. Show him we don't hold a grudge and that we appreciate the NHL coming to its senses. A wrong was righted. Time to move forward.

Nothing but applause from me. Chipman himself recently admitted that he made a bet with Bettman as to how fast we'd sell out the season ticket blitz. Chipman lost the bet as he thought it would take longer than Bettman did.
Leave the booing to the classless jerks in other cities.

Shall we not boo if a ref calls a crappy penalty on the Jets too? No negative vibes! Sorry everyone, I can see I'm in the minority on this board but there is not a fat chance in hell that I would ever cheer Bettman. The Canucks fans wouldn't be looked down upon if they had of stopped booing when the Bruins actually got the Cup and had of just politely clapped (oh and of course if they had of NOT burned their own city down!). But the fact that they booed Bettman would not have even been looked down upon if it isn't for everything that they did after (showing no respect to the Bruins and burning down the city) Bettman is a weasal who was all too eager to get rid of the Jets back in 1995. I agree, there wasn't much going for Winnipeg at the time and it certainly wasn't ALL Bettman's fault, but it doesn't change the fact that he made things even more difficult for us to keep the team, forced us to jump through hoops and realistically, wanted to see the team leave for "greener pastures". In 2011 he needed us. Atlanta had to go somewhere, Phoenix won't be far behind and we were the only place truly ready to take a team, with a building and solid ownership group. Let's not forget that he also charged us a relocation fee (the first of it's kind in league history). Bettman is a tool, plain and simple and does not deserve respect. I don't want him as commissioner and will quite proudly express that opinion. Once he's gone from the microphone at Center Ice, we can get back to cheering on our team. Booing Bettman will not only not take away from the game for me, but will actually add to my enjoyment level. Can't wait for Oct 9th! Go Jets GO!

..as long as I can force the GLOWING PUCK image out of my mind for the minute or so Bettman is flapping his gums I should be able to hold back any booing!
... and please don't tell me he had nothing to do with that freaking magical puck!!!!!!
. that puck is now a phantom, just like his American TV deals?!!!!

I have matured a lot since the Jets left in 96. I now understand Bettman was not the reason they left. I will cheer his efforts in assisting True North returning our Jets to us!

Gary! Gary! Gary!
Chant it at the home opener, first thing Gary says is "I guess I'm not in Vancouver anymore".
Bench clearing brawl between the Jets and Canucks? When the league's handing out suspensions I want Gary all warm and fuzzy on Winnipeg when he's deciding who gets hit with the dirty end of the toilet plunger.
All-Star Game? Heritage Classic? 'Generous' schedule in future seasons? All kinds of dividends come from making Gary feel welcome in our barn.
Moreover, there's no percentage in booing! If we boo Bettman we get exactly nothing in return. Cheer the guy and we get to look like the most magnanimous city on earth.
Headline: "Winnipeg Fans Stand Out - In A Good Way!" vs "Winnipeg Fans - Disrespect Wishes of their New Owner".

Nice to see you being mature and taking the high road (not) - you're amongst a ever dwindling group who can't let things go, even when in '96 Bettman had little to do with the team leaving - you still feel the need to boo a guy you think forced them to leave. I am glad to read most others will cheer, golf clap, or do nothing. It is better than looking like classless jackholes booing ON NATIONAL TV on opening night of the NHL return to Winnipeg.

He had no choice, remember we had no owner and no building and no hope of a building. What is he supposed to do? Opening night should be a night of celebrating, why boo him? Boo Carey Price, boo bad calls by the ref. oh and if he is here, lets also have a huge ovation for David Thomson

I think we should all just go Pucken Crazy from the time we enter the rink until they turn out the lights. This is a celebration, but if Mark, and Don talks we all stop and listen, any thing else keep going nuts!!!

You take the high road in a political debate. I'm not going to wear a sweater vest to the game either! I don't just "feel he forced us to leave", the fact of the matter is we did not have a lot going for us at the time in the 90's but Bettman was all too happy to sacrifice small market northern teams to move into big market southern teams. That cannot be disputed. So yes, I agree it is not ALL Bettman's fault that the Jets left in 1996. But he was certainly a factor, and the one person who will be standing on the ice on October 9th who actively worked against the Jets back in the 90's. Plus, he's a terrible commissioner and weasely annoying person on a more personal level. Since I now indirectly pay his salary, and I think he is a moron, I will feel no remorse about showing how I feel about the weasel. PS - if we don't like things that Bettman did so we boo him, how is that any different from not liking something a ref does and booing him? I don't really see the logic there... booing doesn't take away from the game it just shows passion IMO.

Just keep in mind that Mark Chipman has asked that the fans be respectfull to Bettman.
That being said, do whatever you want.
