We chanted Gary's name at the Draft in St.Paul and it was so awesome haha! We got a smile, a wave and a special "hello Winnipeg" it was pretty funny! After Bettman went up to Chipman and told him he didn't know what to do and that hed never been cheered like that before, he thought it was neat haha. Would love it if a sold out MTS Centre could get a GARY GARY GARY chant going! Even if you don't like him it would be great and show a lot of respect to the NHL and Mark Chipman. Would show how classy our city is.Would show how gullible Winnipeg is... I didn't think Winnipeggers could be so easily duped, humph, guess I was wrong. How are we gullible? We fricken put pennies and dimes into piggy banks to try and save the team back in '96 - knowing there was NO owner, NO viable building, NO salary cap, a lousy economy at the time, among other things. Do you remember the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore, then the NFL Commish righted a wrong by putting a team back there at the first opportunity? Well, consider this a similar thing. Bettman didn't want to leave Winnipeg, but the game and economics and lack of ownership dictated no choice. Look at the why Atlanta left - economics and no owner!

Bettman didn't want to leave Winnipeg, but the game and economics and lack of ownership dictated no choice. Look at the why Atlanta left - economics and no owner! The problem with that is there were groups trying to put together ownership, and from what I understand, Bettman did change things at the last minute on several occasions, and add new rules/clauses that made it more difficult for them. I'm not saying that it didn't work out for the best, TNSE is now in a solid situation that is better than any patch-work bandaid solution that we could have come up with back in 1996. But that is just lucky for us, certainly not part of Bettmans plan. To me the point is that Bettman's grand view was that there was money to be made by moving into big southern US markets. That's fine, but the way he did it wasn't. It is all too obvious that he was quite happy to throw smaller market teams under the bus to facilitate these moves. He brought in a salary cap AFTER the Jets were gone, and after he was in the markets he wanted to be in. Hoping that this would help to solve the problems in those markets. Of course it didn't because you can't fix a lack of fans, but it had the side affect of making Winnipeg even more viable. That wasn't for us though, make no mistake about it. And the previously unheard of $60 Million relocation fee sure as Crap wasn't for our sake. So there are a lot of good reasons to dislike Bettman. He doesn't care about the game or the fans. You can say "well it's a business, it's about money" but then you are a moron, I'm sorry to say, because if a business wants to make money it needs to care about it's customers, or at the very least make an effort to appear like it does! And all of this is aside from the fact that Bettman is a pompous, arrogant weasel with a terrible personality. This oozes through on absolutely every interview, and is the reason why he is booed everywhere he goes!

This subject needs a poll!
Will you boo Bettman:
- Yes. I hate the little man
- No. He gets a grudging golf clap
Who ever started this thread needs to get a poll going.

I don't have tix for that game but I would say this... I wouldn't boo him because I just don't think it fits to occasion.
One man's opinion.

If I could go back in time, I would boo the little weasel while he's opening a present on Christmas morning back when he was 6 years old! I get what your saying, but to me, booing Bettman just makes the whole day even better. 15 seconds of booing, hours of pandemonium and cheering!

Bettman won't get booed. How do you boo Santa Clause when he gives you the best gift of all time? Even if it was the same Santa who took that gift away from you 15 years ago. Thanks for giving us a team Gary. Everyone in the building on the 9th will just want to cheer for anyone and anything. It'll be pandomonium!

I think a better analogy would be The Gringe rather than Santa Clause...

The owners caved in 94, remember the shortened season? no because you were 11. Shenkarow knew then that the Jets were done, there was no cap until after the lockout, this is not Bettmans fault

My point is that the Salary Cap was not put in to help Winnipeg get back in the league, it was done because it helps every owner and always will. Yeah it makes small markets more viable, but it also makes big markets even more profitable. My comment about him doing it after he was in all the markets he wants to be in may have been a stretch, but it doesn't change that he didn't have Winnipeg in mind when he brought it in.

You said that Bettman didn't bring in a cap until after they moved.
He tried in 94, the owners (his bosses caved) thus the Jets had no choice to move

He tried in 94, the owners (his bosses caved) thus the Jets had no choice to move My point was that he didn't do it for us, as many people have suggested we should love him for bringing in a cap. He didn't do that for us, he did for the 30 current teams at the time, since it helps every owner. And the biggest point is still that realistically, he was all too happy to see Winnipeg leave to chase US expansion dreams. If some want to forgive and forget, that is their choice. I won't let people off with saying "we have no reason to resent him though" because that just isn't true.

A Yotes fan's opinion: he will be booed, and it will be an embarrassment to your city as you will be seen as ungrateful.
You have all made your points on this board, and others may make similar: but the vast majority of attendees are not at this board or prone to reading the media on this topic (or prone to reading, period) ((and that's not a slap at Peg, it's a slap at the majority of today's living adults)).
The reflex will be to boo. And that reflex will be heard over the applause of Go Jets Go cheers. And it will be a shame.
