A Yotes fan's opinion: he will be booed, and it will be an embarrassment to your city as you will be seen as ungrateful. You have all made your points on this board, and others may make similar: but the vast majority of attendees are not at this board or prone to reading the media on this topic (or prone to reading, period) ((and that's not a slap at Peg, it's a slap at the majority of today's living adults)). The reflex will be to boo. And that reflex will be heard over the applause of Go Jets Go cheers. And it will be a shame. -TODD I have a feeling you may be right. But I sure hope not.

Bettman gets booed in most NHL arenas. Vancouver booed the heck out of him at the finals and then staged a 3 hour riot that was shown on TV all over the world. Now, that's embarrassing. I don't know what to predict but I think it will depend on how Bettman is presented...If Chipman is standing beside him and introduces Bettman in a complimentary way, I think it's possible the boos will be limited...it'll be another thing to watch for in an eventful day...

If people HAVE to boo..I'd prefer they do a goalie style chant of 'Gaaarryyy'...kinda heckling him for moving teams to crappy markets (eg Phoenix/Atlanta) and him now realizing he made a mistake.
I voted for silence, as that would be hilarious, but I know that wont happen...

I've said it before, I'll say it again, some people will just never be able to wrap their heads around it and look for a convenient scapegoat. It's not his fault the Jets left in '96. I'm not booing Bettman.

I tend to blame the guy who (it seemed to me) made the most $ off the Jets moving to PHX.
His name isn't Gary.
Rhymes with Gary though.

It would be better for us and the league if we didn't boo him. He let us have a team back, so why boo him? All should be forgiven by now.

Rhymes with Gary though. ; o ) then you would be off base there too. its funny how little poeople know about the reasons the Jets left. its all documented, its everywhere. all you have to do is look for it. I don't know. It is pretty well documented why the Jets left: - low dollar - players salaries paid in USD only - rapidly rising players' salaries (thank Goodenow and some teams) - old arena run by WEC, not the Jets - team was losing money - difficulty finding someone to own the team in Winnipeg in the circumstances - also, the NHL was not as popular as it currently is in Canada (many Canadian teams had less than full buildings, TV ratings were much lower, etc.) It was a combination of the above factors that made it difficult to get a new building off the ground...the thought was even with the new building it might be a difficult financial proposition... Bottom line: no one wanted to own the team in Winnipeg in the circumstances... Is Bettman to blame for all that? Of course not. On the other hand, the NHL and Bettman did very little to help to find a solution. It was felt that the league had outgrown markets like Winnipeg. - no help to the Jets concerning the currency issue... - no promise of a salary cap or revenue sharing... - no help finding a new owner, etc... Rather, Bettman and the NHL placed onerous conditions on the composition and capital requirements for a new ownership group in Winnipeg. The NHL did not lift a finger to save the Jets and Nordiques compared to what they have done for the sunbelt teams, including: - the lockout to get a salary cap - looking everywhere to find owners to buy teams when the current owners give up (Nashville, Tampa Bay, Phoenix...) - even purchasing and running teams (Phoenix)... So, cheer him if you want. I understand the sentiment of forgive, move on/forward, etc., but let's not try to rewrite history and try to pretend that the NHL and by extension Bettman did anything to try to prevent the Jets from leaving 15 years ago. Or that they really cared about saving the Jets at the time: they did not; quite the opposite.

I haven't heard if Bettman will stand out in front if the crowd or get on a mic, but if he does he should be booed as no one has ever been booed. If there is one thing Jets fans can agree on, it's the tragedy of the jets leaving. It doesn't matter that our finances were bad and getting worse. Fact: Bettman blocked our deal to keep the team along with 13.5 million of public DONATIONS to keep the team. For that, he is forever the villain. Anyone who says different in my presence gets a backhand slap. ..." Anyone who says different in my presence gets a backhand slap. "... .....are you fvcking threatening people here? How fvckin' stupid are you?....
