There are two reasons to be pessimistic. Firstly, the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour, and when Arniel was filling in, the team responded much the same as they had before. They did the same to Lowry when he was interim coach, Secondly, the available evidence points to a core of players who are passive-aggressive towards coaches and simply start playing as individuals when the chips are down- probably as few as three, and unless these are rooted out, history will repeat. Cheveldayoff has shown himself to be unwilling or unable to do this.

Just complained about who they did hire. But you are entitled to your pessimistic view.

Can see your second point, but not sure what info you are relying on to make your first.
The team went 11-5-2 with Arniel behind the bench this season, which is on pace for a 109 pt full season....doesn't seem all that terrible to me.

No one has any idea how this will work out. He as qualified as any other candidate. He's no more a "mediocre, safe pick,...... than any other candidate. Congrats Coach Arniel. I hope it works out. π We shall see. Cheers, 2b9πππ I believe he has as good a shot as anyone else they could have hired. To me the real question is does this lineup have the right stuff, the right mix, the right personal.....

Despite a crappy playoff performance the Jets were 4th overall in the entire NHL. Yes, there's work to do, things to figure out but that can't be ignored .Arniel also had a winning record when he took the reins when Bones had covid. Every former Coach he assisted has nothing but kudos for the guy. He deserves a shot and there really is nothing concrete anyone can actually say to suggest he shouldn't get a shot. Just general complaining because it isn't a splashy/sexy pick

This is a comfort hire. Was he the best candidate available or was he just in the right spot at the right time? You hire a guy just because he's already in town might not be the best way to move the team forward.
I don't like this. The biggest reason for me is that the last thing this group needs is a coach that they have a comfort level with. The Jets as a team should go into next season being very uncomfortable. If you polled the players as to who they wanted to take over, I'd bet the majority would say Arniel. Change might be uncomfortable.
Time will tell, but don't be surprised if this is a big step in reverse.

But I do get the your idea the players may be to comfortable with him.It is a risk. But he deserves a shot at walking that line .He stands as good a chance at keeping them going properly as any of the other candidates.

In order for this to work for Arniel to bring the Jets to the next level/being a true contender for the Stanley Cup, he needs to fire absolutely every Coach on the Team and bring in his own hand picked Coaches, PK, PP specifically and especially speaking, bring in experienced expert Coaches that specialize in PK and PP specifically speaking, PK and PP Coaches that have excelled at the NHL level.
I do though have one exclusion, the Goaltending Coach.
However, if you can find the same type of Goaltending Coach that can teach Helle how to βPuck Handleβ better including when to play the puck, Iβm in on that.
Just my thoughts and opinion.

^^^^^ I also believe that the Jets need to hire a full time legitimate Analytics Department/full time Staff, not just one person, a full time Staff.

It matters not if we get clobbered in the 1st round, many will be happy. No, what the team requires is change and yet change is what many fear. It's effects are unknown and most are comfortable with the team's 2024 regular season performance. However I am willing to give Arniel a chance. We will see what the change will do for the Jets by Christmas. Will it be a present or a lump of coal!?
