This is true, the man thought big and had some vision. With or without the Moose this city would have got a new rink! Just remember this "and it pains me to give this man any credit" but if it wasn't for Glen Murry saying no, True North was planing to build a 7500 seat arena! NO NHL!

I, for one, miss the Moose. They provided good, cheap family entertainment. My sons participated in many Moose sponsered activities, i.e., 50/50 , Timbits hockey etc. There is very little chance that I will attend a Jets game in the near future, but Moose tix were always available. The moose tickets were always available because???..because there was a 15k arena and only 7k fans attended? I'm not a huge AHL buff but how many of their arenas hold 15k and sell them out?

There's no arguement to be made - the Moose were a great AHL team on and off the ice. But it doesn't change the fact that attendance is now double even though prices are triple... Obviously the NHL is not only a better product, but one that at least 95% of the city is far more passionate about. But back to the original arguement... would we have the NHL without the AHL? Who knows, it certainly didn't hurt anyways but I would say the point is that's in the past. What good does it do to honour the Moose? Let's honour the Ice Caps if anything... because the point remains that most people are far, far happier with the Jets than the Moose. I would even argue that the Jets are better in some ways for people who can't afford tickets. At least every game is televised so 30 games are free and 50 can be seen for $10 a month, 6 months a year. People who really don't have a lot of money can take part in the Jets more so than the Moose. Obviously average families can't afford to go to as many games, so there is give and take.

Thank you death, well said. Wish they had been able to stay as our farm team as well, right here at home.

I agree, I just don't understand the way people still have to dump on the Moose for some reason. They filled a void and did very well in their time here.

Because you have some posters here that hate True North and Chipman and feel that they should have done more to bring the NHL here sooner, also the same people will complain about the lack of honoring Jets history, price of tickets, the name, the jersey etc

i dont think there will be a WHL team skating in winnipeg anytime soon..... Who knows. It would be at least 2 years away I would think, but I for one would enjoy it. I hear the rumour on Oiler boards is that their partnership with their junior team makes it so that when they send prospects down to junior, they basically get an assurance that he will be playing big time minutes/pairings with the better players. Not that this would turn a bust into a superstar, but it's certainly an advantage you have in that you can control player development a little more. And with TNSE's focus on development from within, it seems like a logical step if they can get the dollars and cents to work.

No one here has that feeling. Everyone is greatful for Chipman and TNSE's efforts. Do some of us feel that its incorrect and inaccurate to say "without the Moose we would not be here right now"? Absolutely. Please don't sensationalize things.

Bitching and moaning about an AHL team that people didn't care about does nothing when it comes to supporting an NHL team. Heisinger really needs to either get over it or get another organization to work for. The negativity will spill over to the players and management if it hasn't already. We can't have that if we A. want to win or B. want quality players to want to come here.

I can understand how some people feel this way. A WHL team in time could fill this void. Personally, I'd rather watch 1 NHL Jets game on TV than 10 AHL Moose games in person. The NHL buzz factor is that much better and it is not solely due to the differences in the quality of play. The NHL is just a much bigger stage.
