Jansen Harkins is the one guy we need to sign, I think he may be a sleeper! I agree wholeheartedly but this GM business is voodoo to me at times. If building a stay and be part of the team is a culture you want, why wouldn't you look to be interested in a guy like Hamonic? I really like Hamonic as well, but he is not the physical presence we need on the blueline. As a matter of fact, we need two such.

According to NHL radio yesterday, Sami Niku is definitely not in the Jets' future, and has been offered around the league with no takers.

In yesterday's Freep, Mike McIntyre wrote that, as presently constituted, the Jets are in worse shape than the Leafs, Canadiens, Oiler and Canucks and better than only the Senators and Flames. This is largely due to the porous Jet defence.

I suspect, with no inside knowledge, that we will regret it....maybe.💇♂️ According to Jason Bell in the Freep today, Niku has had a deathbed repentance and wants to stay with the Jet organization. Apparently, Niku got into an argument with Charlie Huddy at some point in the past season and has had a variety of injuries as well, the most recent last March playing soccer. The confirmed news that he is being shopped appears to have spurred him to smarten up. He has become more rigorous in his training, and trimmed his locks but he is still a long shot to make the Jet roster. The best he can probably do is shine well enough to be sent down to the Moose and play himself into a starting role and get a callup ot two.

So the threat of a trade has inspired him to work harder/train harder??? That pretty much tells me everything I need to know about him as a player and a person, keep working at trading him Chevy we don't need him!

Another Finn, Puljujärvi, seems to have needed the same kick in the #$$ to motivate him with the Oilers.

I dont think it's the threat of a trade so much for either of them it's the fact no one wanted them. Good motivation when you realize your career might be over pretty soon if you dont change.

Even if Niku shows well in the big training camp, he would have to walk on water to be worth retaining. If we have any rookies who look close to him in ability, it would make sense to go in that direction. He would have to beat out Heinola, and that does not look likely.

I am cautiously optimistic about Samberg. He was profiled on NHL radio yesterday and the commentators were of the opinion that with his size (6'4" and 215lb) plus his demonstrated ability to play as well as older, more experienced players in the NCAA, plus his nasty streak, he could be the piece we need for our defence to become respectable.

They, Niku and Puli, have other options like their own national league or the KHL. But it is is reassuring to see the NHL remain the pre-eminent choice. Like most issues its about the money or its potential. And what else are they going to do and get the kind of coin an entry level contract gets you? I have a friend whose son was on a two way contract with Nashville and the Milwaukee farm team. His career was languishing. His future mother in law advised him to quit and get a real job! She had no idea he was getting $750K. She rescinded her opinion when she was so informed. LOL.

Niku (yawn). Roslovic (yawn). I don't think teams are knocking down the doors to get these guys. Strategy 1 - Bet on Laine, with Little LTIR we really can afford to sign him, and hope Heinola and Samberg solidify the D.....Strategy 2 - Sweeney getting antsy - Laine to Boston for Carlo (6-5 215 lbs), Debrusk and a 1st round pick. I would give Roslovic one more chance but if Boston wants him too, they can have him.

Well when it comes to having a winning defense SIZE MATTERS, Heinola is one more undersized D with skill on a team that has to many under sized D. you can get away with 1 maybe two players like that, but half of your Defense core, sorry that will never work!

Things are going to be a little different for Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry next season.
On Monday morning, the team announced the hiring of Dave, Adam’s father, to the coaching staff. The 55-year-old’s resume includes two head coaching gigs at the WHL level with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Victoria Royals, along with assistant coaching jobs in the NHL with the Flames and Kings.
