Is he really going to try to ride these players into the season?

Buy out 26 and then immediately trade 55, followed by 88. We are not a team that Is built for the playoffs, not tough enough to withstand the pounding because of that I would also look to move 27. I like Ehlers but he is often injured and IMO not able to compete in the playoffs, plus he misses the net too much with his shots. On a side note if Helle or any other player does not want to try to improve this team, then move them as well, try to get as many assets for the Jets by moving the "Stars" that don't want to be part of a must change Jets team.

I think circumstances will ensure that Dubois is the first traded player, because the Jets will certainly like to avoid having to give him a qualifying that will walk him straight to unrestricted free agency (and diminish his trade value since it wouldn't allow the acquiring team to possibly negotiate a long term deal). The only way to avoid doing that is to trade him at the NHL Entry Draft.
Yes, Scheifele could also get traded at the same time, but with Chevy's cautious approach to things I would think there is a chance that he waits until the summer to find what he considers the best offer he can get.
Can't see anyone wanting Wheeler even at half price, so take the $5.5M hit over 2 years to buy him out. We won't be paying Scheifele/Dubois $12M+, so Winnipeg can definitely afford the hit (plus cap will go up huge in the 2nd year).

Don't believe he will sign so sooner the better. Sheif should be moved as well don't like his up and down nature. Wheeler may be a cancer now so cut the head off the snake change the attitude in the room.

Prize goes to the insight of the week! I have said the same about Ehlers and principally at this stage of his career because of his hernia surgery and its degradation on careers. Leaving that aside he has been plagued by injuries. Even in his best full season year the Western finals year he failed to get a single goal in the playoffs. He's not built for the playoffs assuming he even makes it there in one piece. Draft a big tough kid from the Western Hockey League and let's leave behind fragile waifs like Ehlers and Heinola.

haha, I like the Blue Jackets suggestion. I'm sure Laine will be campaigning his GM hard to make that happen.

As for who goes first, Dubois will go when he goes but like gobombersgo says, 26 and 55 can't go fast enough. That's where you start if you want to rebuild the character of the room...and it may not stop there with the old core if the exit interviews were any indication.

I might be wrong as to who goes first, since the buy out period will mostly occur ( June 15th-30th) before the Entry Draft ( June 28th-29th). So hopefully Wheeler will be the first to go, then I still think Dubois is gone at the Entry Draft.

Who goes first and who needs to go first are very different questions I chose to answer with who needs to go first and in my world it's Scheiffle. No respect or loyalty to this city or the fans. Same for whomever is coaching him. Pack up his goats and his bible and send him off into the southern states. A very very close second is Wheeler. Buy him out asap. Maybe some players will want to come back once the trash has been taken out.

I like Shakin's answer. Nashville would the perfect place for the Bible and goats, but its in the same constituency as the Jets. Carolina anyone? PM would likely cancel that one, eh? To me order ain't important as long as it's 55 & 26. That would allow Bones to coach like he can without obstruction. If he stays of course. oops Florida🤪

Chevy ain't a hockey celebrity now as we see his feel for this team and his approach to winning? Won't take the blame for all the fans have had to put up with?

Just my take for aggressive moves. We need to get big and nasty on D to make it work. Can’t believe we lost Kovacevic and Stanley not developed. If I am GM, I trade Scheifele to Detroit to be with his pal Copp and try to get Edvinsson and picks and move Dubois to Montreal for Guhle and picks. If Hellebuyck and Connor are happy then we build back up again. Forwards are a dime a dozen. Niederreiter played as well as any of our top forwards so sign him.
But we are dealing with Chevy so…..stand pat!
