If what has been reported in the media is correct, it would seem to support the theory that there is rot at the heart of the team. McGroarty or his advisors may have heard this and decided that it would be detrimental to his development if he joined a "good enough" team which is not committed to aspiring to be elite. Keep in mind, everything at this point is heresy, let’s wait until the REAL News comes out. Not saying that you are incorrect, nothing at all like that, let’s just wait until the REAL News comes out. I personally won’t be surprised at whatever comes out nor happens, I don’t care in any way shape or form one way or another, I like any other fan has no control over this particular situation, let’s just get this out of the way which ever way it is going to happen/work out. Just get everything straightened out whichever way it’s going, just get it done so that everyone moves forward/hopefully for the Jets, it all works out. Cheers, 2b9😉😃👍 |

If he can't beat Apples out then I'd be shocked...and if that were the case trade him now while he's worth something fantastic. Flyers did well in the same situation received top four RHD Drysdale and 2nd rounder. Plus the RHD was able to play immediately in his role. Always a desperate team who will overpay although don't get me wrong he seems like the exact type of player they need. Let's hope it works out for the best.

Wiebe's freep article makes mention that prospects can't crack the Jets roster because the team is in "win now" mode.

Well win now sure didn't work out so why not infuse a little bit of young talent? I'm not saying every young player but damn anyone with some upside give it a shot. The Apples of the world sure aren't tipping the scales. |

An odd situation. And disappointing. The Jets wanted Rutger to sign. He says not unless he can be guaranteed a spot on the NHL roster? Things break down.Talks of trading him erupt.

McGroarty and team USA's attitudes and antics at the world juniors might give you an indication of his true character. There's abundant arrogance and a sense of entitlement in this individual. Historically these personality types don't contribute to teams unless there's strong coaching and team mates that keep them in line and focused. He's a strong physical player that's sorely needed on the Jets but if his thoughts are that he is special and can jump past the usual hoops then maybe it's best to send him on his way. I'm sure UTAH would be a good landing spot for him. UTAH also has a mess of picks they could give. I'm not up to speed on this. What did he do at the WJHC? Attitude wise? The article glosses over the incidents but to see it live with the post game interviews left a bitter taste. Not what a captain should be doing or saying. |

There seems to be a bit of a change in 'thinking' with some of the higher level US college players. They themselves believe they know when they are ready for the NHL and teams are saying hold on, every player is different, time in the AHL iwill benefit you. So more short term thinking versus long term thinking. Which means, the Jets may have to adjust thier developmnet strategy. By all acounts, they are very good at creating a path for players and staying in touch with them through college or junior. Where they seem to falter is the transition to the NHL and/or the definition of 'ready'. Some say we like them to be over ripe (other teams do this as well) and this is true. But it is not like our current roster is anywhere near a Cup. If management believes this they are delusional. We need to inject some youth and get them NHL games now so they are better in a year or two. What are we going to do, stall all prospects until the new contracts of 55 and 37 are done? In one of the articles I read on this situation (may have been on Sportsnet), they had a quote from Roger's mother from a awhile ago saying something to the effect that HE will know when he is ready for the NHL. I would say that is also delusional. Every one of our young players - Conner, Scheif, Josh all thought they were ready but later said thier extra time in junior or in the AHL was beneficial. Back to the point of the post above, the fine line is if a young player earns a spot sont send him back down just becuse he is waiver exempt. I think that is the crux of the issue. Earn the spot and it is yours regardless of exemptions. |
