I think you're mixing up two restaurants.
There's 529 Wellington in the city and The Gates just outside the city. Both are in old houses - but only 529 has a 'center staircase'.

A new unique restaurant has opened up in St.B. Chaise Cafe. On Provencher Blvd. Definitely a wide variety for the tastebuds! The pizzas are great, and if octopus bolognese pasta is more to your liking, hey have that too! I wasn't brave enough for the octopi! lol Ummmm. hit and miss actually. I'm not going back

Great food, but only insanely rich guys like deuce can afford to eat there often enough to know the layout like the back of his hand ;D

Went to Oakwood Cafe couple weeks ago.
It was OK. One cool thing was you could substitute perogies for hash browns (for an extra $3) Like I mentioned it was an OK breakfast, but my wallet was $60 lighter when I left, for 2 regular breakfasts. And not once were we approached for a coffee refill.

Steak: 529 Wellington. I go two or 3 times a year.
VJ's across from the train station. Best fries in the city, and top 3 burger for sure.
Cibo, on waterfront drive.
Hooters... Ha Ha!
