Why are these kids chewing though? they watch David Ortiz and all the big stars with a big wad in their mouth spit over home plate. It should be banned. Absolutely banned it sends a terrible message with these guys Blatantly spitting everywhere. It's deeper than that. It's in the culture. I have friends that don't watch baseball but they play it and they chew. A simple mlb ban won't do it and players will still do it. You think Ortiz gives a sh@t about a thousand dollar fine? nope but banning it all together and leading to suspensions is the only way to get rid of it

its not about their choice. Its about displaying tobacco use across tv screens across america. NO they need to ban it now and fight if they need to fight for it. This is too important im sorry your precious MLB has problems that need to be hased out but they do and this is one of them. Its this or push Cities that own the parks to BAn tobacco usage in the parks INCLUDING the players on the field and fine players through city ordinances. LOL Somehow I doubt you are that seriously put off by tobacco. Media/nobody even talks about it. This is all about MLS for you and killing/wounding baseball because your hero's let you down and you want revenge for the heartbreak. You shouldn't have viewed any athletes as heros in any sport. All they are is ASSETS for the local team that help give them victories until they can no longer produce. Heros are parents, police, firefighters etc... Yes the game has problems. Real problems that need to be worked on or MLB will lose a crap load of $$$ long term. Stuff like tobacco isn't going to cost mlb any $$$ so no owner is going to care about crap like that. Sure they will ban it if the union doesn't object but they aren't going to risk the business over something that small. The big problem is pace of game. If anything wounds the sport for sure it will be that. Solve that and the Tampa/Oakland mess and everything is fine. I know you realize this deep down and are just looking for stuff hoping for labor wars over nothing. Next complain will be major league athletes sleep around on the road. This is immoral and a poor example to set. What if the poor children find out!!! Each MLB team needs religious police on the road that flog guys who get out of line. MLB needs to force this. If there is a strike that ruins the sport OH WELL!!! My favorite sport MLS will just have to take up the slack.

You got to be kidding me right? Managers would start using this as a tool to win games. Horrible idea!

There has been a narrative brewing that I dont love baseball. couldnt be further from the truth.
I dont trust the people running the game anymore. They havent proven they can responsibly foster the game to a new era.
Seligs Legacy is look the other way. Not money. Its steroids. Thats his entire legacy. Steroids.
baseball cant afford to look away from anything anymore

My top 10 issues facing baseball 1) speed of the game 2) PEDS (yup they are still there) 3) Reconnecting on the national TV stage 4) Tobacco 5) Stadium situations in Tampa and Oakland 6) Reconnecting with Minority Populations in america. 7) The Rules of the game (DH no DH) 8) Chief Wahoo...nce redskins gets taken care of a victorious group of people will look right at this Racist Relic.....It appears to be almost gone. 9) enlarging the strike zone Strike zone 10) Actually useful instant replay

11) more MLB issue not as important but should be addressed.
Lack of a Third Party baseball video game.
Currently the only MLB game is the Show which is a First party exclusive to only one video game system. though PS4 is the highest selling gaming system its not the only system and xbox (im not one) and nintendo (yes) dont haev a game to play. They made a huge mistake selling the exclusive rights to 2k sports who have given up their rights because their games were so bad. They need to get with EA sports Asap but I dont recommend signing another exclusive game its not necessary and hurts quality (i also feel the NFL should drop EA exclusivity)

Im sorry if i look pissed off. I am. Simple Fn Fact. If you dont think the MLB should take an Immediate Stance on Chewing in the game? You are wrong. Nope no arguing. you are are wrong. Look baseball should do what they can to stop it. Don't get me wrong if it could be banned without a labor war/ruining relations with the union I'd ban it in a heartbeat. It's a disgusting habit no question and what happened to Tony Gwynn breaks my heart. But to actually threaten to shut the game down over it is batCrap crazy. It's not THAT important of an issue to destroy the game over. What MLB should do over time is try to convince the players union on why to take steps to ban it. Not an immediate do things MY way right this instant and IF I don't get my way I have a temper tantrum and shut the game down. Union is willing to start with education. How about start out with have an education program at ALL levels of baseball and donate to youth leagues to educate why it is bad. Then when enough players are against it the owners can say stuff to players like the guys who still chew are spiting crap all over the place on field, when you guys make sliding catches/sliding into bases you are probably sliding in someone elses chew. We think that's disgusting you want to work in a gross environment like that. Why don't you agree with us on a ban? That's for going easy on me with the Cubs:)106 years without winning is painful enough!!!

They havent proven they can responsibly foster the game to a new era. Seligs Legacy is look the other way. Not money. Its steroids. Thats his entire legacy. Steroids. baseball cant afford to look away from anything anymore Can't foster the game to a new era?? Have you forgotten MLB was a sport making only 1B 20 some years ago with mostly empty crowds in ugly cookie cutter stadiums? Did you forget about how there wasn't interleague games, only 4 teams made the playoffs? did you forget about the constant labor wars of 20 years ago, there 0 competitive balance with 0 revenue sharing? Also big market Washington with around 6M people and 30 fortune 1000 companies had no baseball team. Someone helped get 22 new retro parks built, interleague play, wild cards. Somebody was able to twist enough big market arms who didn't want revenue sharing to make them agree to it. Somebody found a way to get around Peter Angelos and get a team into DC. Somebody was able to keep harmony with the players union to prevent any strikes. You can't pretend Bud isn't a major part of all this. Yes he deserves critism for looking the other way on steroids and not being able to speed up pace of play. All star game for home field was pretty dumb too. But overall he did a good job.

9) enlarging the strike zone Strike zone 10) Actually useful instant replay This is a pretty well thought out list 1.Agree. This is the number 1 issue by far if you ask anyone. This is the biggest threat to the sport. You can say all you want the youth like MLB when they get old(it's been true in the past) but you can't count on that in the future if you keep having such SSSSLLLLOWWWW games. Why risk future profitability/revenue over guys scratching their private parts endlessly? 2.PEDS will NEVER be completely gone when you have millions of bucks at steak but they should do all they can to knock it down as much as possible. I hated the ragged 11-10 games. PEDS hurt small markets teams and competitive balance because guys could perform VERY well into their 30's(ie way past their years under team control) 3.This can only be done SLIGHTLY with faster games. But for most people they aren't watching the game of week/playoffs because they already got 162 games for the home team they can now watch if they want. Sorry but the horse left the barn on this with local TV/being able to get games on the net. Volume of local games is too much. 4. See post above 5.Oakland and Tampa aren't completely in control of any commissioner. Oakland it comes down to how DUMB the city council is. If they are truly stupid enough to go with the Raiders/minor league stadium you better hope you can find a place like Freemont for a stadium(NIMBYS stopped a plan a few years ago) or hope Montreal can get a park. San Jose is a no-go. Commissioner can be 100% pro San Jose but if 7 big market teams go against it which they will you can't go there. St. Pete has a lease until 2027. The St. Pete mayor/team say they are making progress on a buyout. But if St. Pete says no there is nothing you can do. 6.Agree. They started with RBI program. Do more. VERY important to hit Hispanics hard too. Get them away from soccer. Just not in this country either. Hit both Mexico and Brazil HARD. Have preseason games in Mexico/Brazil every year. Don't waste money on Europe. Europe is going extinct literally. 7. Can't be fixed. NEVER should have done DH in the 1st place. NL owners won't agree to it because it will cost more $$$. Can't get rid of it unless you want to shut the game down/ruin the momentum. In my perfect world DH is gone. 8.Agree but make it clear there is a LIMIT on how far this goes. Get rid of Chief Wahoo and the Tomahawk chop in Atlanta. Politically correct fascists will go too far though. Indians isn't disrespectful and neither are names like Blackhawks. Be clear there is a limit to this. 9. how about get rid of the home plate umpire and do it by computer?? that would be bold!!! You'd have perfect accuracy. 10. Haven't watched enough MLB since 08 to comment. Still heartbroken over 08. As far as your forbes article.... G4 fund is too late. Oakland would be privately financed, so Tampa is the only team that would need help. Everyone else went without G4 why should they get special treatment. After that I think the current parks last a LONG time other than slight renovations. But otherwise this would be a good idea. Adding personality isn't bad as long as it doesn't get out of control and guys are doing rain dances after home runs. Some of the "unwritten rules" crap needs to go. Some needs to stay. Don't want to see MLB turn into NFL/NBA. Lifting the blackout policy is a great idea. As far as more revenue sharing we have to see what happens when other big markets sign huge local TV deals(cubs in 2019 for example). Right now the systems working but we have to see long term.
